Here we are.

We’ve been going back and forth on email, trying to nail down a time and place to meet. We finally get to sit down in person, and you’re ready with a list of questions (which is actually something we love – please ask all the questions!!). After we’ve gone down the list, we’ll hit you with one of our questions for you: have you thought about a first look?  For some, the idea of a First Look hasn’t even crossed their minds! Lately, a lot of our new couples aren’t totally sure what it even means! It’s true that this decision is very much a personal one, but what most couples don’t realize is how much it can change the flow of your whole entire wedding day!!

Somewhat of a newer tradition, the First Look is when the couple decides to see each other before the aisle reveal during the ceremony. Simply put, it throws out the outdated superstition that it’s unlucky to see the bride before the ceremony. For a lot of brides, at first it may feel like casting aside an age-old tradition isn’t worth it. But I can say, as someone who has witnessed a lot of First Looks over the past year, it’s a beautiful, intimate moment that deserves consideration!!! 

So picture this.

Your maid of honor has just finished getting your dress buttoned up. Your bridesmaids are standing around you, ooh-ing and aw-ing! You’ve spend the morning getting pampered. You’ve been cheers-ing mimosas with your girls!! And now the pre-ceremony jitters are setting in. All the sudden, just after your veil gets fixed, your mom hands you your bouquet and boom, it hits you. I’m getting married!!!!!!!

But, instead of holding in all of those jitters, you feel calm. You know, in just a few minutes, it’ll all be fine. It’s time to finally see your best friend. He stands with his back turned, waiting for you to call his name. To touch his shoulder. And then, time stands still. You both get to take it all in together. It’s just the two of you, no one else watching, no expectations on you or your interactions.  You’re free to hug, laugh, hold each other, cry, kiss, and take a moment for yourselves. Sometimes our couples read their respective vows, either aloud or quietly to themselves. Sometimes they exchange gifts. Sometimes they pray. Sometimes they just laugh with tears in their eyes about how it’s all happening! They have this moment to take it all in and to breathe. This may be the only moment alone you get for the rest of the day. And this is your day, isn’t it?

Now I’ll let you in on a little secret…

I know this sounds crazy, but it’s 100% true!! Statistically, our grooms cry harder when you walk down the aisle if they’ve already seen their bride during a first look. We can’t say for certain, but it seems like the nerves have already been washed away, the pressure is off, and his true emotions really come out!! It’s a phenomenon that we witness time and time again!
