“In case you didn’t know, I’m crazy ‘bout you, I’d be lying if I said that I could live this life without you.”
Braden and Ashley’s eyes were locked with one another. They were only inches apart, singing to each other with wide smiles on their faces. They were surrounded – literally – by all the people who have loved and supported them throughout their lives. Their Grand March (a Czech wedding tradition) led by Ashley’s grandfather had just completed, and they were dancing in the center of a giant circle of their loved ones, smiling and watching them. Swirling around the dance floor, they sang, smiled, laughed, and kissed like they were the only two people in the world. They were warmed by their loving audience when everyone then rushed in for a giant group hug with the new bride and groom, but that just made Ashley and Braden smile even wider.
Earlier that day,
Ashley and Braden sat hand in hand in front of the altar. The day was just beginning for the two of them, and this new season of life together was about to unfold. Ashley’s uncle – who was also one of the officiants – offered a touching sentiment on family. He said that “when you’re from a Czech family, you don’t make just one cream cheese roll. You make multiple. If you’re making a dozen kolaches, you might as well make 5 dozen. You do this because some people may need them, and some others may have forgotten.” He talked about the value of giving, of community, and caring for those close to you. Ashley and Braden are the embodiment of those values. Each free moment, each smile, each embrace, was a kolache given by them to everyone celebrating alongside them. In fact, this was true in a literal sense as well; Ashley and her grandmother had hand-rolled a bunch of cream cheese rolls for the reception. That abundance of cheese rolls were a metaphor for the day overall; sweet, hand-crafted, full of love, and shaped by family.
To Mr. & Mrs. Riha,
We’re so grateful to have met you two! Since our engagement session back in January (still can’t believe that was so long ago!) to last night, it’s been such an honor to capture y’all during this chapter of your lives. I cannot wait to see what the future holds!
