Did you hear the news?
HMP will be offering Fall Mini Sessions for the first time this year! We’re excited to open these up to see our favorite families in front of our cameras again and meet so many wonderful new ones!
Only a select number of spots will be available and booking starts later this week! You can get first dibs (and a discount code!) by signing up here!
How to Prep for your Mini Session
The very best way you can prepare your kiddos for your mini session is to set expectations. Not just with your kids, but even with yourself!
They might be fussy, and that’s okay! The great thing about mini sessions is that they are mini! We have such a short time together that we can definitely get some smiles and giggles out of them by working some magic.
If your little ones are old enough to understand you, it’s a good idea to prepare them for what’s to come before the session starts. Setting expectations with them is all the better!
Explain how much the photos mean to you and how you need them to be on their best behavior. Sometimes just a little understanding about why they’re doing photos can make a big difference in older kiddos.
We really recommend something fun to do after your min session. Kind of like a light at the end of the tunnel! Something that can be considered a treat after the mini session if your kiddos are good listeners and good participants!
P.S. this should also be a reward for you!!
Pre-session, it helps if your kids’ bellies are full and they’ve had some good rest before the session. We tell this to our couples too – prepare as much as you can and the best you can so that you can give yourself (and them) some grace and relax as much as possible during your session!
Remember I was a preschool portrait shooter for a few seasons, so I get it. If your littles are in a mood or super fussy, rest assured that it is a-okay! I’ve seen it all and know how to get great photos no matter what!
Our main goal is to make this as fun and stress-free as it possibly can be for you and your family! This season of life feels long right now, but in the grand scheme of things, it’s short. So even if things don’t go exactly as planned or as you’d hoped in terms of your kids’ behavior, one day, you’ll be so glad you took these photos.
Our last tip: make sure to pack the perfect bag of tricks!
Make sure you have water and a favorite snack that we can use to our advantage! 🙂 If your kiddos are too young to follow direction from us, be sure to bring any toys or items that can help us get a smile and keep their attention!
