Hi friends! I’m very excited to virtually welcome you in and take you on a house tour!
I want to preface all of this by saying two things: this is our house like maybe two months after moving in. Second, basically all of my decorating decisions I made by just winging it. 🙂 So keep that in mind!
Yes, AJ and I are total homebodies and moved in right away and very quickly. We did our best to make it a home ASAP. And it is definitely full now with all the essentials.
Something I’ve been focusing on more is trying to add only sentimental things. Especially since like I said we have all the essentials covered!
Let’s Start in the Living Room
When you walk in, you’re immediately in the biggest room of the house! One of the first things that drew me to this house when we were still shopping around was the vaulted ceilings! Surprisingly in this neighborhood almost every house had high ceilings, which is amazing since they’re all on the older side.
This big couch is my favorite part of this room (aside from Pebbles’ little corner, duh). In our tiny apartment we had a super uncomfortable couch that AJ and I didn’t really fit on. And then add Turbo and we’re all upset. But we can streeeetch out on this one and have both Turbo and Pebbles on it and we’ve all got our little space.
I just love the color too! We discovered that there’s a West Elm outlet (!!!) in San Marcos and that’s where we got this beauty for 80% off! Woo!
The fireplace is my second favorite part. I’m obsessed with the blue shimmer on the tile, and the elevated brick is such a cool touch! I’m really excited to decorate this more fully when we’re more settled.
Dining Room
Turn the corner and you’ll see our lil dining area and the sliding glass door. This door is almost always open with Turbo half in and half out.
I hunted long and hard for the perfect dining room table and I’m soooo happy I found this one!
It had to be round (I think this space is too small for angles), and I wanted it to expand so we could have more people at our dinner table! Now there are quite a few expandable round dining tables, but they’re all chunky, farmhouse style. Not really my jam.
So when we found this one at West Elm, on sale, I jumped on it!
The chairs are actually from West Elm too! We were looking on Wayfair, Overstock, etc. But these were the same price during the sale so we nabbed them! Which is awesome because they match the table wood color perfectly! WIN WIN!
This piano is from my parents house and I love it to death. I cannot tell you how happy it makes me to see it every day. They promised me a long time ago when I moved into a place big enough it would be mine, because I was really the only one who would play it in our house!
I did take lessons when I was younger but I mainly learned to avoid reading the music and get by on muscle memory. So while I still remember all the notes on the piano, I can barely read the bass clef…but I’m learning!
On top of the piano are some more meaningful things! My big mama Ivy, the mother of all my lil baby Ivy plants. (I.e. – all my other ivies were propogated from her!)
There are 3 carvings from my late grandpa that used to live on the piano when it was at my parents. There’s a crystal candle holder from my parents too, and a little tray that I don’t know what to do with! But I think it looks cute up there 🙂
Next to the piano is my beloved painting by my sweet friend Paige Yim! This is part of her thesis series from last year. It’s so cool and I can’t wait to actually hang it up the way it deserves!
Aaand the reason that’s not hung up yet: a big ugly metal cart. Our next project is to install a plug in that pantry next to it, so the microwave can go in there! Then that cart can go to his new home, the garage 🙂
The Kitchen:
My little happy place. This is the little spot that made me say I neeeed to live in this house. It’s basically everything I ever wanted in a kitchen.
Not to mention that in our tiny apartment we had two countertops. Two. They were maybe 2 feet long each. And no I’m not counting the tiny four inch counter on the other side of the sink…
AJ and I can coexist in this kitchen without literally stepping on each others toes. If the dishwasher is open you can also open the fridge. It’s a dream come true!
This is also something I’m also excited to decorate when we get settled! We’re planning on putting some floating shelves above the window and on the side there.
When my sweet previously mentioned friend Paige Yim visited, she helped set up the little picture frames around the counters and I’ve just loved it. This Turbo painting is from Paige Vaughn and it’s a perfect reminder to turn around from the counter and give Turbo a treat. 🙂
The Office:
Our house is 3 bedrooms total. The first bedroom down the hall is my office! 🙂 I love that I’m not totally separated from the rest of the house.
Not to keep bringing up the tiny apartment, but in the tiny apartment the little breakfast nook was my office. As in, I would look up and see the kitchen and remember I was hungry for a snack all the time.
If I wanted to keep working after AJ got home it was nearly impossible because we were literally always in the same room and I’d get distracted.
But now if I want to, I CAN CLOSE THE DOOR! You don’t realize how much of a luxury that is until you don’t have a door!
I’ll do a bigger lil tour of my office soon!
The Bedrooms
Soo the spare room right now still has the blow up mattress up from when AJ’s cousin came for the weekend…like 3 weekends ago. Oops. So
The goal is to make this a guest room compete with a real bed and a real mattress that’s not full of air.
Here’s our main bathroom! We made a fun discovery when we first moved in that we had completely overlooked that it was missing towel racks, toilet paper holders, shower curtain bars, etc. etc. Oops.
Silver lining: that means I got to pick them out myself and I got gold ones because why not! I love them.
Hi.
Cut to our master bath, where I picked black ones! I love those too! I also love love the open shower ! We installed that little spring loaded shelf in the corner which took us like hours for whatever reason. Home ownership is an adventure for sure.
Okay here is our bedroom! None of this furniture is new to this house except the ~vanity~! I am immensely proud of this vanity. Everything save the chair and the mirror are from Ikea! It functions beautifully, it’s very minimal and doesn’t take up too much space.
I’m planning on adding little baskets or something to the floor there that functions well ! Future decorating 🙂
And that is it my friends! I’m so happy I got to (sort of) have you over to our home! I can’t wait to decorate this all more fully! Because I’m sure you noticed there’s basically nothing on the walls 🙂
Stay tuned for more tours!!
P.S. if you want a look at my old tiny office, you can see it here!
Holly, I love your choices in decor and the house itself. Such clean lines, yet very homey. The piano is a gorgeous and looks perfect. You and A.J. Have done a great job.
Susan
Thank you Susan!!! 🙂
