New Austin Public Library Engagement Session | Bob & Catherine

Texas can be tough on new people. The weather is unpredictable. The temperature is inconsistent. When Catherine and Bob (Team Bobcat, as they affectionately refer to themselves) flew in from Northern California, we were almost positive they’d end up disappointed in the weather for their engagement shoot in temperamental Texas. In fact, it ended up being so beautiful outside that Catherine speculated moving here… albeit briefly. We had to promise her that it wasn’t this good all the time. The fantastic weather kept spirits up, there was a lovely breeze and it was easy to have a good time and get some great shots of the cuties enjoying the outdoors.

We wanted to take them somewhere special, fun, and diverse, but we also wanted to make sure things would be vague enough that their California friends and family wouldn’t be asking tough questions… so we chose the brand new and amazing Austin Central Library! We were excited to check it out because of its architectural diversity and its general ‘cool’ vibe, and it was a huge success! It definitely helps that they were perfect subjects – constantly smiling, laughing, and having fun without any sort of help from us! It helps that one of the things that Catherine loves most about Bob is his “dorky dad jokes” (her words!).

As for the the actual shooting part… they were a dream. They were fantastically fun and focused inside and outside, and were totally cool posing with tons of people walking by!! At one point when we were outside, Bob suddenly grabbed Catherine and started dancing with her, singing into her face to make her laugh. All this against a backdrop of 5PM traffic and a setting sun – it was so beautiful!

We feel so lucky that we get to fly up to the Bay area in March to capture their wedding! I know it’s going to be so beautiful and we just cannot wait.

Xoxo,

Holly & AJ
